My brain is weird.

Courtesy of an overly frazzled brain and seeing a certain meme on Facebook first thing this morning.

(Sung to the Jonathon Coulton version - at least in my head!)

I like big books and I cannot lie
You other geeks cannot deny
When you're walking past the sci-fi shelves
and a fat spine draws your eye...

Ooh, think of what's held inside
Spaceships, wizards, aliens
All with their very own story to learn
With each page that you turn

Oooh baby lets read some more
Share with me your secret lore
Why don't we both grab a book
And sit out in the sun

Some folks say that books aren't fun
But when it is all said and done
They're really, truly out of luck
'Cause I simply don't give a ...damn

I like big books and I cannot lie
You other geeks cannot deny
That a good book's something to treasure for ever
And the time I stop reading, well, that'll be never

I like big books and I cannot lie
I like big books and I cannot lie...

Just in case...

Hello all! Long time no post...

However, just in case anyone on my friends list is a devout Lee and Miller fan and doesn't already know about it, there's a chance to pre-order (well, pre-pledge at least) a signed copy of their newest book.

Details here: http://rolanni.livejournal.com/656886.html

... deadline is midnight tomorrow, but I kind've forgot about it earlier *headdesk*

A quick request.

Please would people have a look here and sign the petition if you feel it appropriate:

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/decriminalisation-of-dispensing-errors.html

This is, as a pharmacist, something that strikes horribly close to home for me. All dispensing errors are legally a crime and could be prosecuted, regardless of whether anyone comes to harm. In the case that triggered this petition, a pharmacist received a three month suspended prison sentence for a dispensing error that was ruled to have no link to the patient's death.

Your time and attention is very much appreciated :-)

Dreamwidth!

So... I have a Dreamwidth account now. Thought about changing my username, but decided that would probably confuse me, let alone anyone else.

http://keziath.dreamwidth.org

I don't seem to have any invite codes yet, but when I do I'll let people know.

What Big Cat Are You?

You Are a Lynx
You are a quiet observer of the world around you. Your wisdom comes from listening carefully.
You've always been extra sensitive and aware. And it's made it difficult for you to fit in.

You see past people's outward personas. You are able to penetrate a stranger's soul.
What you've learned about people is both beautiful and ugly. And you keep these secrets to yourself.

Graze.com!

Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] googlebrat, I've just signed up to http://www.graze.com

It's a site that sends you fresh fruit, dried fruit and other healthy snacks for £2.99 per box, aand you can rate products so you don't get sent stuff you're allergic to. You can pick how often you get sent boxes, and apparently it's easy to unsubscribe.

Now I'm looking forward to Wednesday and seeing what my first box is like ^_^

...if anyone checks it out and wants to give it a try, then if you use the code 3PFYD6F you get your first box for a pound, and I save a pound off my next box. (Or you could use Googlebrat's code 51RWM3HI to get your first box free and second halfprice, but that's only valid til 2nd April. Not sure if you get 2nd one halfprice with my offer).

*sigh*

Dear mystery person who appears to have placed a jinx on my pharmacy.

Please to be taking it off now? I'd like to have a bit of time where I'm not running around fixing problems to do that paperwork that's piling up in the corner. Not to mention that pile of prescriptions...

Thanks,
moderately stressed pharmacist.

Poem meme

Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.

Hang out my window

Walking around in a daze
On the verge of ruin
Doctor doctor, please
We built this city

We never talked about it
Well, we know where we're going
I am a man of constant sorrow
Darling, I'm lost

He never said
Once a beautiful Miss America married Mr Right
I cherish the ground you walk upon
Blue, songs are like tattoos

Somebody once told me
After all the jacks are in their boxes
I've spent so much time throwing rocks at your window
All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey

Feline comedy

Cat is lying on the landing, and randomly decides she wants to eat play with [livejournal.com profile] killfalcon's hand. So out comes the dangly toy of doom, and while she's busy playing with that, she then (after a couple of false alarms that really ought to have clued her in) rolls a little too far backwards and falls halfway down the stairs. She looked absolutely ridiculous

Update

- Ow. Going to Tae Kwon Do for the first time in a month = pain. I've got to start going more regularly - as it is, I'm going to ache so much tomorrow... still, it was a lot of fun.

- My Lost Odyssey soundtrack arrived! Time to start teasing Katy with it, I think.

- The epic clearout of the house continues. Still can't see any difference in the volume of stuff I've got, but I live in hope!

I've finally got around to uploading my photos of my trip to Edinburgh. Took me long enough!

Well, that was... interesting.

Having driven back up to my parents for the weekend, I found myself rather stuck yesterday evening due to an itty-bitty oversight. I'd brought my keys with me since my parents weren't going to be back from visiting my sister until late, but somehow I don't have a key to the inner porch door, just to the outer. Cue me sitting in the porch phoning my parents with a line of very confused cats forming on the other side of the (glass paneled) door.

In the end my mum's friend gave me shelter for a few hours, so I ended up with a pub meal, some good company and a nice warm lounge to wait in. All's well that ends well. It turns out that one of the people I was having dinner with used to own the riding stables I went to when I was younger, although I didn't find that out until I got home. No wonder I was trying to think who he reminded me of!

Now I'm busy (supposedly) helping sort stuff out ready for when my parents move out, but there's a remarkably large amount of emailing going on >.>

I have made sure to lay claim to the partial bolt of cloth that I was told I could have - it turns out it isn't cotton, it's actually some sort of polyester mix, but it's decent stuff (especially since it's free!) and a totally unobjectionable cream colour. I'm sure I'll be putting that to good use shortly.

Suppose I'd better get back to work! :)

Daft Christmas meme

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Tuesday I committed genocide... Sorry about that, [livejournal.com profile] songmistress (-5000 points). In August I ruled Asscrackistan as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points). In April I saved a busload of nuns in Angola (326 points). In March I pulled over and changed [livejournal.com profile] heymicster's flat tire (15 points). Last Saturday I gave [livejournal.com profile] alanwrotethis a kidney (1000 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-4359 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,
keziath

Win!

I finally got my rota through for December, and I still have Mondays off. This means I have both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve off work, which makes me very happy indeed. I actually get a vaguely decent break over Christmas! Less good is my being scheduled to work in other branches on some Saturdays, which is a) annoying for me and b) unfair on my Saturday girl. Not a lot I can do about it, unfortunately.

Had a slightly comic moment last night when I was tuning my student violin and broke the E string. Being out of replacements, I switched to my other one and promptly broke the A string. Oops! Didn't really want to mess around switching strings between violins, so I ended up practicing my viola instead - which was just as much fun, so no loss there. Except to my pocket when I go and buy more strings...

Also, reading over what I just wrote, I think I may have too many instruments. Especially considering my general (lack of) practising habits.

Huh.

Yesterday was November 1st, and yet I didn't hear a single Christmas song on the in-store radio at work. I'm in shock!

It won't last, unfortunately. I give it another week, tops, before it's driving me up the wall.

Fun and Games

In spite of Friday being the kind of day where you find yourself checking the date to make absolutely certain it's not the 13th, I had an excellent weekend.

WFRP was an absolute blast, as always (I swear, I didn't mean to screw everybody over! I'm sorry! It wasn't my fault! ;) ) and as usual, now I can't wait for the next one.

Yesterday I'd have probably spent most of it feeling slightly down and restless, except I managed to haul myself out of bed early enough to go to squad training at Tae Kwon Do - one and a half hours plus of being run ragged, made harder by the fact that I haven't been training properly for months up until a couple of weeks ago. Then, for some reason I decided it would be a good idea to stay on for the black belt session afterwards - another hour and a half!

Needless to say, after that I was about ready to drop. I couldn't, though, as yesterday evening I had a concert to go to - talk about a full weekend! It was well worth it, though - a performance of Baroque music (including my favourite piece of music ever, namely Canon in D by Pachebel) where the performers were all dressed in period costume. I want the coat the violin soloist had - it was absolutely gorgeous. Mmmm.

It's doing the rounds )

I've read more of those than I thought I had. Also, curse additional reading in school for forcing me to read Jane Eyre... although it made for an excellent cure for insomnia ;)

Good news for a change - I just had someone visit from Swalec to give me a quote on replacing the boiler... and apparently it doesn't need replacing. It does need some stuff doing on it, and he suggested I take out boiler cover with Swalec and get them to do a maintenance visit, which I was thinking of doing anyway. It shouldn't cost very much to get fixed, and it's certainly a lot better than forking over 2 grand for a new boiler. ^_^

It was mildly surreal since it turns out he's the engineer who fitted it in the first place to the previous owners when he was working for a different company.
